Circles: Resurrected

One of the books that most profoundly touched my life when I first started in this field is a book called, “Circles of Compassion.” Edited by Elaine Sichel, a long-time lover, protector, and advocate for animals, this book is a collection of stories, thoughts, and poems from shelter workers around the nation. Whenever I read this book, each story manages to illicit some sort of reaction; tears, laughter, goose bumps. All of these stories are told with such honesty; they are the original “Voices from the Front Lines.”

While the book is no longer in print, editor Elaine Sichel was kind enough to allow me to reprint some of my favorite stories from this book, with the generous request that we try and also find the authors to obtain their permission and blessings. While I have made every effort to track down the original authors of this book, I have not been able to find them all; however, each author will be given credit as they appear in the book. If you are an author of one of these stories, please contact me, as Elaine would like to return copyright to you!
